All of us, I am sure of it, want to know how to build a better future. However, I personally believe that it is a mistake, a very big one, to hold onto an idea like that and make it a life purpose.
Why? Simple; because when we are thinking about tomorrow we stop living today. Who can assure us that tomorrow will come? Or rather, that we will arrive with it.
There is a quote attributed to John Lennon that says something like this: "Life is what happens to us while we strive to make other plans." Time is limited, and even so, we lose it in simplicity.
Do not get me wrong, it is not my wish to say that you have to be irresponsible and not act to have positive living conditions in the years to come, but it could be that the waste of energy does not pay off as we hope.Hope tomorrow does not drown the triumphs of today
I'm about to turn 52 years old (Covid survivor) and the experience, tremendous blows and the occasional triumph, has helped me understand what matters and how to build a better future. Younger everything mattered, now it is not and the sense to prioritize over what is relevant grows. I don't work so hard then on having a better tomorrow; I focus on how important I can do today.
30 years ago, how others saw me was very valuable to me. 20 years ago I cared how they looked at work. Today I am not interested at all what they think, because it is not substantial. What is relevant is how I see myself.
I recommend that in the morning when you get ready and look in the mirror, look in the mirror! How to build a better future? Build it from the present
Thinking about where you want to go without doing anything to get there is unproductive. Getting old is not getting better, John Maxwell tells us that we should not celebrate birthdays, we should celebrate the growth and development that we have had.
Being older leads us to die, growing up leads us to impact. Tomorrow we will not be better if we do not strive to grow today, evolve as people and become aware of our actions.
So how do you build a better future? Well, to have a better tomorrow we must focus on today, which is all we have, but not on the day to day and the things we have to do, but rather think strategically about what is required to achieve a better tomorrow.
Knowledge, curiosity, soft skills, emotional intelligence, humility and proactivity are some tools that will help us get out of our comfort zone but with a roadmap. Some tips to build your best version?
1. FOCUS ON OTHERS, we learn more about ourselves when we help or teach someone.
2. CRITICAL SENSE. Awareness of our actions and decisions is what activates our ability to improve.
3. FOCUS. You cannot live based on the past or on past glories, you have to move forward to grow. The good days will continue to arrive for those who know how to discern where it is important to focus energy.
4. GROWING MEANS CHANGING. Those who aspire to be better must know that they need to evolve, the status quo is the enemy of growth because it does not challenge, nor allow to question anything.
In life we must learn and unlearn, seek our best version at each stage and always help others. Do you want to change? Start there, there is no way to fail.Abrazos desde Costa Rica!
